Liyuan Scholars Colloquium Session 172
Title: Optimal transport and some applications
Speaker: Professor Jiakun Liu (University of Sydney )
Time: 10:30–11:30, June 15, 2026
Location: Room 1, Huixing Building, Yuehai Campus, Shenzhen University
Abstract: In this talk, we will give a brief introduction to the optimal transport problem and discuss its applications in geometry, cosmology, and image recognition. If time permits, we will also present some recent results on the free boundary problem in optimal transport. These results are based on a series of joint works with Shibing Chen, Gregory Loeper, Xianduo Wang, and Xu-Jia Wang.
Speaker Profile: Jiakun Liu obtained his BSc from Zhejiang University in 2006, PhD from the Australian National University (ANU) in 2010 and subsequently held a 3-year Simons Postdoctoral Fellowship at Princeton University. In 2013, he joined the University of Wollongong as a Lecturer, then promoted to Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor. In 2024, Jiakun joined the University of Sydney as an Associate Professor in Analysis and PDEs. Jiakun's research interests are in nonlinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations and applications in geometry and optimal transportation. In particular, the regularity theory of Monge-Ampère equations, Hessian equations, and other variational problems.
All faculty and students are welcome!
